KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland softball added two players for its 2019 team while one of those players will also play on the school's inaugural women's soccer team coming up this fall.
Elena Logan (Geneva) signed with both the women's soccer team and softball team and will have the chance to play for both teams during the next school year. Softball also added another player on the same day as Ely Miller (Eastlake) also signed on to Laker's softball.
On the softball side, Logan will play outfield for Lakeland. At Geneva High School, Logan played in 19 games and brought in 13 runs and maintained a .292 batting average.
"Elena possesses very good athletic skills and will help us in the outfield," said Jeff Morganti, Lakeland softball head coach. "She has already taken CCP courses at Lakeland so the transition to college should be easy academically."
On the soccer side, Logan teamed up with fellow Lakeland signee Maria Sill at Geneva. Logan played keeper and compiled 90 saves over a four-year career while also scoring four goals and adding two assists.
"She is a versatile player who can play multiple positions," said Steve Sivik, Lakeland women's soccer coach.
Lakeland softball also added Miller, who played 25 games for Eastlake North and scored 15 runs and earned a .288 batting average while stealing nine bases.
"Ely will be rehabbing during the fall season but we expect her to make a full recovery for next fall," Morganti said. "She is an athletic outfielder with a solid left-handed bat."
Lakeland softball started its season with a pair of victories on March 2 and has a doubleheader on the road against Surry (N.C.) Community College on Friday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
