Lakers continue to play well in Millington, TN

On Saturday, the Lakers started the day with a 6-2 victory over DI Rend Lake. This was a close battle throughout the game before the Lakers finally broke it open with 3 runs in the top of the seventh. The inning started with Cody Pittenger reaching on an error. Garrett Sierra followed with a single before Spencer Schultz plated them both with a double. Later in the inning, Adam Samuels would drive in Schultz on a single for the games' final run. Earlier in the game, Levi Jones knocked in two runs with a double and Matt Didonato also added a RBI single.

On the mound, sophomore Kyle Zarbosky (1-0) went the distance pitching 7 innings, allowing only 2 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4. It was the Lakers first complete game of the season.

In the second game of the day, the Lakers run-ruled Highland (IL) 16-5 in 5 innings. The Lakers scored 5 runs in the first, seven in the fourth, and then four more in the fifth before this game was called for the mercy rule. Offensively, the Lakers were led by Matt Didonato, Glavine Harpe, and Levi Jones who all collected three hits. Jack Shepherd. Garrett Sierra, Adam Samuels, and Dillon Rohm each contributed with two hits. As a team, the Lakers had 7 doubles, 1 triple (Samuels), and 1 home run (Harpe) in the game. On the mound, Ben Coffman (1-0) picked up his first win of the year throwing 4 innings and striking out 3. Brandon Harlan pitched a scoreless fifth inning for Lakeland.

Sunday's game scheduled against Southwestern Illinois College was rained out. Next week, the Lakers will travel south for a difficult spring break as they are scheduled to play 13 games in a 10 day span. The Lakers will continue to be on the road in early April before finally hosting Sinclair Community College in their first home games of the year April 14-15. Come out to support the team!
