Baseball split on Friday

In the first game, the Lakers came from behind and scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars 12-11. The inning started off with Matt Didonato reaching on an error. Gino Bertolone later walked and then the Lakers followed with four consecutive hits. Spencer Schultz doubled, Levi Jones tripled, and then Adam Samuels and Glavine Harpe followed with singles. The five run outburst allowed Rob Kalinowski to gain the victory. He pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit ball while striking out two batters. Earlier in the game, Michael Krupa also pitched two innings allowing one unearned run. At the plate, the Lakers gathered 13 hits. Harpe led the way recording three hits and scoring two runs. Samuels, Jones, Schultz, and Mitchell Dragon each added two hits in the victory. Matt Didonato had one hit (3B), three RBI's, and scored four runs for the Lakers.

In the nightcap, the Lakers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Chesapeake College Skipjacks. Lakeland jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Cody Pittenger led the game off with a single and then Mitchell Dragon walked. Pittenger later scored on a RBI single by Adam Samuels. The Skipjacks then scored five runs over two innings and held a 5-1 lead going into the top of the seventh. The Lakers fought back by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to make a spectacular comeback like earlier in the day. In the seventh, the offense was provided by a Spencer Schultz walk and a Levi Jones home run. On the day, the Lakers collected nine hits; six of which were collected by two players. Samuels finished the game going four for four with a double and Jones finished two for four including the home run. Eli Brown pitched the complete game picking up the loss. Brown threw six innings giving up five runs (four earned), allowing six hits, walking one and striking out seven.

The Lakers will finish their spring break trip with two games at Surry Saturday.
