Lakers baseball drops pair at Garrett College

The Lakeland Lakers baseball team traveled to Garrett College on Tuesday to play a double header against the GC Lakers. A shorthanded squad lost both games as several players stayed back at Lakeland to focus on their studies instead of participating in the non-league games. Lakeland fell 11-2 in game one. Eli Brown took the loss giving up four runs in three innings. Offensively, Lakeland only managed five hits. Alex Newsome had a double and scored two runs and Levi Jones had a hit and two RBI's.

Game two saw Lakeland down early as Garrett College scored six runs in the first two innings. Lakeland battled back scoring a combined five runs in the third and fourth innings, but it wasn't enough as Garrett College completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory. Ben Coffman surrendered eight runs in 3+ innings in the defeat. Offensively, Lakeland had six hits in this game. Garrett Sierra and David Kalinowski both doubled.

This weekend, the Lakers will get back into league play as they play host to Edison State on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. Lakeland currently sits at 6-2 in the conference and 13-18 overall.
