WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Offense for Lakeland baseball had a hard time getting off the ground in its season-opening doubleheader as Jackson College won both games by the scores of 10-1 and 11-0 Saturday afternoon.

The pair of losses means that Lakeland begins the season 0-2.

Jackson 10 – Lakeland 1

Jackson scored six runs in the first five innings before Lakeland could get on the board in the 10-1 season-opening loss for the Lakers.

Lakeland was held to just two hits as Matt Detering added the only extra-base hit with an RBI double in the sixth. Jonathan Johnson had a single for the Lakers.

Hudson Widrig had a decent start for Lakeland in pitching into the fifth inning and allowed just four earned runs while striking out four but Widrig was saddled with the loss.

Jackson 11 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland was again held to just two hits in the second game as the Lakers were unable to score in an 11-0 loss to Jackson.

Luis Padron and Kyle Espineli each hit a single in the loss.

Lakeland will continue its Florida spring break trip with two more games on Sunday, March 11. The Lakers will first face Brookedale Community College at 4 p.m. and then face Kishwaukee College at 7:30 p.m.
