LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – Lakeland held an early lead in both of its games but was unable to hold on in a 15-4 loss to Brookdale and a 9-2 loss to Kishwaukee Sunday afternoon.

With the two losses, the Lakers overall record fell to 0-4.

Brookdale 15 – Lakeland 4

Lakeland held an early 2-1 lead in the second inning but Brookdale scored 13 in the bottom of the second to take control of the game en route to a 15-4 victory in five innings.

Seth France had a solid game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and two singles while scoring twice. Matt Detering hit a pair of singles and scored once in the loss.

Brookdale scored one run in the opening inning but Lakeland battled back in the second inning. France and Alex Newsome began the second inning with singles and both later scored to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. That lead disappeared when Brookdale scored 13 in the bottom of the inning to take a 14-2 lead.

Even after the rough inning, Lakeland continued to work on offense as Detering led off the third with a single and then came around to score to get within 14-3. Brookdale added a single run in the fourth to extend its lead to 15-3.

France led off the fifth with a double and eventually came around to score to get Lakeland within 15-4 but it wouldn't be enough to extend the game past the fifth inning.

Kishwaukee 9 – Lakeland 2

Lakeland held an early 1-0 lead over Kishwaukee after four innings but Kishwaukee poured on the runs in the latter part of the game to pull out a 9-2 victory.

Detering belted a solo home run while Jack Shepherd had the other RBI with a single. Luis Padron hit a double and Jonathan Johnson added a single in the loss.

Lakeland will continue its Florida spring break trip with two more games on Tuesday, March 13. Lakeland will face Monroe Community College at 9:30 a.m. and then finish the day against Triton College at 3:30 p.m.
