Offense comes up short for Lakers in loss to Gannon JV, 7-1

ERIE, Pa. – Lakeland baseball only had two fewer hits than Gannon University JV but the Lakers could not convert on their chances and lost 7-1 Tuesday afternoon.

Seth France had the lone RBI for Lakeland while Matt DiDonato had a pair of singles. Luis Padron had the lone extra-base hit with a double.

Andrew Smith started the game for Lakeland and pitched two scoreless innings without giving up a hit while striking out three. Alex Newsome pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a hit while striking out two.

Gannon scored three runs in the third and four in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead. Lakeland got on the board in the seventh as DiDonato singled to begin the inning and made his way to third after a Gannon error. France brought in a run with an RBI ground out to get within 7-1 but that would be the final run scored by the Lakers.

Lakeland is schedule to play its first doubleheader at home when it hosts Eastern Gateway Community College on Friday, April 13 beginning at 1 p.m.
