Lakeland held to one run in doubleheader sweep by Sinclair, 6-0 and 10-1

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had a hard time scoring runs against Sinclair Community College pitching as the Lakers lost a pair by the scores of 6-0 and 10-1 Friday afternoon at Sports Force Park.

With the losses, Lakeland's overall record falls to 8-16 overall and 5-7 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Sinclair 6 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland was held to one hit and Sinclair took advantage of a few errors to beat the Lakers 6-0 to open the doubleheader.

Matt Detering had the lone hit for Lakeland. Hudson Widrig pitched six innings and gave up six runs but none of them were earned in the loss. Aidan Findlay pitched a scoreless seventh in relief.

Sinclair 10 – Lakeland 1

Lakeland hit the ball much better in the second game but so did Sinclair as the Lakers lost the second game 10-1 in a sweep.

Detering had a pair of hits, including a double while Jonathan Johnson hit a pair of singles and scored the lone run for Lakeland. Alex Newsome was responsible for the run batted in.

Sinclair did jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings but Lakeland did get on the board in the bottom of the second. Johnson started the inning with a single and then was brought in by Newsome with an RBI ground out to get within 5-1.

Sinclair did score five unanswered runs to cruise to a 10-1 victory.

Lakeland will play two more against Sinclair at home on Sunday, April 22 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
