Sinclair completes season sweep of Lakers, 6-1 and 13-4

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland baseball did throw in some good innings in its doubleheader against Sinclair Community College but the Lakers dropped both games by the scores of 6-1 and 13-4 Sunday afternoon.

Sinclair 6 – Lakeland 1

Sinclair jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first five and a half innings and Lakeland was unable to recover in a 6-1 loss to open the doubleheader.

Matt Detering had the lone RBI for the Lakers as hit added a double. Jack Shepherd hit a double and two singles in the loss.

Sinclair earned its 6-0 lead with single runs in the first, third and sixth and then scored three runs in the fourth. Unfortunately, that would be the final run scored for both teams in the Lakeland loss.

Sinclair added a pair of runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead.

The Lakers cut into the lead in the bottom of the third as Detering belted a two-out double and then came in to score on a line drive single by Oliver to get within 5-3. Sinclair added two more runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 7-3.

Lakeland again fought back, this time in the bottom of the fourth as France was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and then Mora later drove him in with an RBI ground out to get within 7-4. Sinclair did add six unanswered runs to cruise to the nine-run victory.
