KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had a hard time getting any offense in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Cuyahoga Community College Friday afternoon.
With the pair of losses, Lakeland's overall record falls to 8-20 and 2-10 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.
Cuyahoga 10 – Lakeland 0
Lakeland was unable to score any runs in the opening game and Cuyahoga took advantage for a 10-0 victory to open the doubleheader.
The Lakers picked up two hits in the loss as Jacob Nagy hit a single and Matt DiDonato smacked a double.
Anthony Ward pitched into the fifth inning and only gave up one earned run while striking out a pair.
Cuyahoga 6 – Lakeland 1
Lakeland did a much better job of creating scoring opportunities but left 11 on base in a 6-1 loss to Cuyahoga.
Jack Shepherd had the lone RBI for the Lakers and added a pair of singles. Alec Guy, Matt Detering and Garrett Oliver each had two hits in the game.
Andy Gorby got the start for Lakeland and pitched five innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out four. Hudson Widrig and Andrew Smith each pitched two innings of relief for the Lakers.
Cuyahoga jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the ninth but Lakeland was able to get on the board in the final half inning. Gino Bertolone started the inning with a walk and then came in to score on an RBI single by Shepherd to get within 6-1. Unfortunately, that would be the final run scored for the Lakers.
Lakeland will play two more against Cuyahoga on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 1 p.m.
