Matt Detering and Jacob Nagy earn OCCAC honors for Lakeland baseball

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had two players named to the All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference teams as Matt Detering (Mentor) and Jacob Nagy (Brunswick) earned the honors for the Lakers.

The honors were based on performance in conference games and Detering hit .375 in conference with nine doubles, three triples and two home runs during his freshman season to earn a spot on the first team All-OCCAC. Detering supplied a lot of the power for Lakeland while spending the majority of his time in the field at first base. Detering was also named to the All-Freshman OCCAC team.

Nagy was close behind in hitting .342 in conference games with 13 hits and six RBIs in 15 games. Nagy earned a spot on the OCCAC second team list.

As a team, Lakeland finished with an overall record of 14-24 and 7-13 in OCCAC play. The Lakers beat Edison State Community College 4-0 in the NJCAA Region XII Sub-District semifinals and then lost to Cuyahoga Community College 5-0 in the finals to end the 2018 season.
