Lakers baseball finishes southern swing with win

The Lakeland baseball team played their final game of their southern trip today and came away with a 12-0 win over the CBC Elite. Jackson Smith earned the win on the mound as he faced just two batters over the minimum throwing 5 innings and allowing 1 hit while striking out 9 batters. The Lakers finally broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd inning as they pushed across a run. Julien Bourgeois got the inning started with a single and then he stole second base. Bourgeois would later come around to score on a Seth Cervello ball that was misplayed by the Elite rightfielder. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lakers broke it open scoring 11 unanswered runs. Jose Fichera got the inning started with a walk and then a steal of second base. Brayden Fellouzis followed with a single and then he stole second base. Ray Cowen then stroked a 2 RBI-single for the Lakers. Bourgeois followed with a single before Andhris Martinez walked to load the bases. Alarik Sierra followed with an RBI-walk before Estevan Ruiz was hit by a pitch to force in another run. Cervello then was walked forcing in another run before Rafael Nakandakari hit an RBI-single. Fichera followed with another RBI-single before Fellouzis picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice. Cowen then stepped to the plate and hit his second RBI-single of the inning. Bourgeois would then single to load the bases before Martinez walked again to force in another run. Sierra finished out the scoring for the Lakers with a RBI-single.

Julien Bourgeois went 3-3 with an RBI while both Ray Cowen and Brayden Fellouzis picked up 2 hits. Cowen added 2 RBI's and Fellouzis recorded 1 RBI. Alarik Sierra finished the game with a hit and 2 RBI's while both Rafael Nakandakari and Jose Fichera chipped in with a hit and RBI.

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to travel to Terra State (Force Sport Park) on Tuesday (3/19) to face the Titans. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
