Baseball splits with Eagles

The Lakeland baseball team hosted the Clark State Eagles today in a doubleheader at Laker Field. Lakeland won game one 3-2 before falling in the nightcap 11-0. In game 1, the Lakers got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jose Fichera worked a leadoff walk before advancing to 2nd base on a passed ball. Fichera would later score on a Clark State error. In the top of the 4th inning, the Eagles would answer and take the lead on a 2-run homer. The Lakers would answer in the home half of the 5th inning. Seth Cervello would work a 1-out walk before Rafael Nakandakari singled. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch before Jose Fichera ripped a 2-RBI single to give the Lakers the 3-2 lead. Riley Wallace would then shut the door in the 6th inning and get 2 outs in the 7th before Jhonuel Dimas entered to get the final out and the save for the Lakers.

Offensively, the Lakers managed just 4 hits, but made them count. Alarik Sierra went 2-3 (3B) with a walk while Jose Fichera went 1-2 with a walk while adding 2 RBI's. Rafael Nakandakari also went 1-2 with a walk in the Lakers win. On the mound, Riley Wallace earned the win pitching a strong 6.2 innings and allowing 2 earned runs on just 4 hits. Jhonuel Dimas earned the save by retiring the only batter he faced.

In game 2, the Lakers offense went silent as they managed just 1 hit, a double by Rafael Nakandakari. The Eagles offense came alive though as they scored a run in the first inning and then never looked back. Zach Sullivan took the loss on the mound allowing 4 runs (2 earned) in 1.2 innings of work. Aiden Limtury relieved and gave up 5 runs (2 earned) in 2.1 innings before Logan Edwards gave up 2 earned runs in his inning of work.

Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Cuyahoga Community College on Friday to face off against the Triceratops in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
