Lakeland unable to keep up with No. 1 Cuyahoga, 89-61

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Lakeland Community College men's basketball dug itself an early hole in the first half as was unable to recover in an 89-61 loss to No. 1 Cuyahoga Community College Wednesday night. 

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. 

Jeramie Burge led the way with 21 points while Trey Granger added 13 points and Ty Howard finished with 10. 

Cuyahoga had its offense working early on and scored 53 points in the first half. Burge put up a fight for Lakeland on offense with 10 points while Granger scored eight but the Lakers trailed 53-29 at the half. 

Lakeland played much better defensively and pulled the game a little closer. After a free throw from Burge, the Lakers crept up withing 15 at 56-41 with 15:08 to play. Lakeland made the game a little closer but Cuyahoga was able to hold on for the 28-point victory. 

Burge scored 11 points in the second half while Aaron Pate scored six points in the final 20 minutes. 

Lakeland will be back home on Saturday, Jan. 20 for a conference game against Clark State Community College at 3 p.m.
