KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College was in great position to get a win but the Lakers were unable to stop Edison State Community College on its final possession as Edison earned a layup with seven seconds left to get a 65-63 victory over the Lakers.

With the loss, Lakeland finishes the season with a 5-21 record.

Jeramie Burge did put together a solid game in his final time in a Lakeland uniform, turning in 19 points and seven rebounds. Trey Granger added 16 points while Ty Howard was the other Laker in double figures with 14 points.

Lakeland did jump out to an 11-5 lead early on after a layup from Burge but Edison State tied the game up at 13-13 and crept out to a 25-18 lead with 6:28 left in the half.

Edison State would control the momentum in the first half, taking a 39-25 lead into halftime. Granger was able to pace Lakeland with 10 points in the opening half.

The second half was much better for Lakeland as it took only five minutes for the Lakers to turn a 14-point halftime deficit into trailing just by three at 42-39 after a made jump shot from Burge with 15:07.

Lakeland tied the game up several times in the second half but was unable to take the lead in the final minutes. Burge scored 14 in the second half and Lakeland tied the game up at 63-63 after a tip-in by Mario Lawson with 30 seconds left.

Unfortunately, Edison State was able to make a layup with seven seconds left for a 65-63 lead. Lakeland had one last shot but a 3-pointer hit the front of the rim, ending the season for the Lakers.
