Lakeland rolls past Mercyhurst North East, 98-58

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Scoring nearly 100 points was impressive but holding Mercyhurst North East to only 58 points was a good recipe for Lakeland men's basketball success in a 98-58 victory Tuesday night.

The Lakers opened the season with a victory after Deven Musselman scored a game-high 22 points, with 19 coming in the first half and 7-of-12 shooting from behind the 3-point line.

Cory Fulton recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while John Dawson and Allen Sims each scored 10 in the win.

Musselman came off the bench and nailed six 3-pointers in the first half on his way to 19 points to help Lakeland build a lead. Lakeland outscored Mercyhurst North East by 27 in the first half as Rob Brown and Tyreke Johnson each scored six in the first half as the Lakers led 52-25 at halftime.

Lakeland kept on rolling in the second half as Allen Sims scored 10 in the second half while Fulton added nine as Lakeland outscored Mercyhurst 46-33 to roll to the 40-point victory.

Lakeland will next play in the TJ Memorial Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9 at home against Andrews Osborne Academy at 7 p.m.
