KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball saved its best basketball for the second half as the Lakers pulled away for a 102-92 victory over Oakland Community College Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Lakeland improves to 3-0 on the season with the help of 26 points from Rob Brown along with 17 rebounds.
Tyreke Johnson added 19 points while Jonny Bowers secured a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. John Dawson also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Oakland came out strong in the first half and made eight 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes to put the pressure on Lakeland. Brown was dominant for Lakeland with 15 points in the first half but the Lakers trailed by as much as 16 with 8:17 left in the half.
Lakeland did finish the half strong to cut the Oakland lead down to 53-49 at the half.
The Lakers came out a much better team in the second half and was led by Bowers with 14 points while Johnson scored 13 and Brown added 11 points. Lakeland outscored Oakland 53-39 in the second half and a big 3-point shot from Chandler Fointno made the score 99-92 and helped to ice the game for the Lakers.
Lakeland will again be at home on Wednesday, Nov. 14 against Jamestown Community College at 7:30 p.m.
