KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball was held well under its season average in points but the Lakers were still able to come out on top 77-63 over Jamestown Community College Wednesday night.
John Dawson drilled five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 21 points to lead Lakeland to a 4-0 record so far in the season.
Tyreke Johnson added 17 points while Chandler Fointno was scoring and setting up his teammates with 11 points and 11 assists to help the Lakers.
Dawson got going early on by hitting three 3-pointers in the first half and finishing the first with 13 points for Lakeland. The Laker lead got as big as 15 after a layup by Allen Sims with 8:07 left to give Lakeland a 31-16 lead. Lakeland was able to hold on for a 43-34 lead at the break.
Dawson and Johnson each scored eight points in the second half for Lakeland as the Lakers outscored Jamestown 34-29 in the second half.
Jamestown got the game within five early on in the second half but Lakeland was able to gain control of the momentum to come away with the 14-point victory.
Lakeland will open Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play at home on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
