KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball did not waste any time getting up big on Owens Community College and carried that momentum to a 94-48 victory Wednesday night.
Tyreke Johnson led the way with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds to helped Lakeland improve to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
John Dawson was only a couple rebounds and assists away from a triple-double as he finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Rob Brown finished with 12 points while Jonny Bowers scored 10 on the night.
Brown and Dawson were on early as they both score 10 points in the first half to help Lakeland get ahead. Lakeland held a slim 11-9 lead with 14:43 left and then ran off 15 consecutive points to take a 26-9 lead after a layup from Bowers with 8:14 left in the half. It didn't get much better for Owens in the first as Lakeland sailed out to a 42-16 lead at the half.
Johnson found most of his points in the second half, scoring 15 of his 20 in the second to help Lakeland maintain control of the game. The Lakers cruised to the 46-point victory.
Lakeland will next travel to face Jamestown Community College on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. Lakeland beat Jamestown 77-63 in Kirtland on Nov. 14.
