Lakeland men hold off Genesee for tournament opening victory, 72-71

SANBORN, N.Y. – Lakeland men's basketball was able to hold off a second-half rally from Genesee Community College to hold on for a 72-71 victory to open the Thunderwolves Classic on the campus of Niagara County Community College Saturday afternoon.

Rob Brown had a big game with 18 points to help the Lakers improve to 10-2 overall. Lakeland remains 2-1 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

John Dawson chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds, Tyreke Johnson had 11 points and Chandler Fointno tossed in 10 points in the victory.

Lakeland put together a good first half and led 38-32 at halftime. Genesee made the game closer in the second half but the Lakers held on for the one-point victory.

Lakeland will finish off the tournament against the host Niagara County on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m.
