CLEVELAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball had an off shooting night of 30.6 percent from the field but still had a chance in the final minute of the game in a 55-51 loss to Cuyahoga Community College Wednesday night.

Rob Brown was the only player in double figures for Lakeland with 24 points while he added seven rebounds and six blocks in the loss. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 13-4 overall and 3-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play while Cuyahoga improved to 5-0.

Brown got it going early on as he scored half of his 24 points in the first half. Lakeland jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first 4:48 of the game. Cuyahoga countered with 14 consecutive points to take an 18-9 lead with 9:53 left in the half.

The back and forth first half saw Cuyahoga claiming a 34-30 lead at the break.

Lakeland still struggled shooting the ball in the second half as the Lakers missed all 10 tries at 3-point attempts and shot 23.3 percent in the second half. Brown did score 12 points in the half to lead the way.

Lakeland never led in the second half but did get within 51-49 after two free throws from Brown. Cuyahoga did make its free throws down the stretch and Lakeland was not able to complete the comeback as Cuyahoga escaped with the four-point victory.

Lakeland will hit the road for a game at Edison State Community College on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. Edison State is also 3-2 in OCCAC play.
