High-scoring offensive effort guides Lakeland over Lorain County, 114-97

ELYRIA, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball shot nearly 60 percent from the field and used that offensive firepower to beat Lorain County Community College 114-97 Wednesday night.

Lakeland used a balanced scoring effort with seven players scoring in double figures as Tyreke Johnson and Deven Musselman each scored 15 to help Lakeland improve to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Lorain County fell to 2-5 in conference play.

John Dawson and Isaiah Washington each scored 14 points while Chandler Fointno and Jonny Bowers each scored 13 points. Allen Sims chipped in with 12 points in the Lakeland victory.

Lakeland got going early on and scored 60 points in the first half. Musselman scored 12 points while Bowers added 11 in the first half. Fointno extended the lead to 10 in the first half with a 3-pointer with 8:06 left to make the score 35-25. The Lakers grabbed a 60-45 lead at the break.

Dawson scored 11 points in the second half while Sims added 10 points as the Lakers kept their feet on the gas. Both teams went back and forth in the second half but Lakeland was able to maintain its lead and outscore Lorain County 54-52 to claim the 17-point victory.

Lakeland will return home on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a game against Sinclair Community College at 3 p.m. Sinclair is 2-2 in OCCAC play.
