Lakeland runs past Owens, 111-82

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Lakeland men's basketball put on an offensive show in beating Owens Community College 111-82 Saturday afternoon.

After returning from a two-game absence, Tyreke Johnson led the Lakers with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting to help Lakeland improve to 18-5 overall and 7-3 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Owens fell to 0-12 in the OCCAC.

Aside from Johnson, Rob Brown tossed in 15 points while Jonny Bowers chipped in with 13 points. Christian Austin-Pitts and Allen Sims did not start but that didn't stop them from scoring in double figures. Austin-Pitts scored 12 and Sims tossed in 10 in the win.

Johnson scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half as Lakeland got right to work and outscored Owens 58-43. Brown also contributed 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Even with the 15-point lead at halftime, Lakeland did not take its foot off the gas pedal in the second half. Austin-Pitts and Sims each scored eight points in the final 20 minutes as Lakeland outscored Owens 53-39 to run away with the 39-point victory.

Lakeland will be back home on Wednesday, Feb. 13 with a game against Cuyahoga Community College at 7:30 p.m. Cuyahoga is currently 9-1 in OCCAC play.
