The outstanding efforts of the Lakeland Community College men's basketball team throughout the 2023-2024 season did not go unnoticed, as the team collected several top honors in the recently announced Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) postseason awards. Head coach Terrell Eskridge was named OCCAC Coach of the Year, while sophomore guard Jareon Mayo took home Player of the Year and first team All-OCCAC recognition.
The NJCAA's 15th ranked Lakeland Lakers played host to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats tonight and came away with a convincing 80-60 victory. With the win, the Lakers improved to 22-3 and 13-2 in conference play. In the first half, the Lakers appeared a bit sluggish early while the Bobcats caught fire with their 3-point shooting. Still, after falling in an early 10 point hole at 17-7, the Lakers battled back and trailed the Bobcats by 2 at the half, 28-26.
Lakeland Community College student-athletes earned 26 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Academic certificates during the 2023 fall semester. The certificates were spread across all eight Lakeland athletic programs, including 24 individuals.
The NJCAA DII 9th ranked Lakeland Lakers played host to the Lorain County Commodores in OCCAC action today in Laker Gym. In an uneven effort, the Lakers were still able to come away with an 89-75 victory over the Commodores. In the first half, Lorain County came after the Lakers very aggressively.
