BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Lakeland Community College men's soccer did not turn in its best performance but was able to do just enough to beat Lake Michigan College 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

The game got a little sloppy with both teams combining for four yellow cards and three reds but the Lakers were able to improve to 2-0 overall and in Region XII play with the win.

Carlos Pesso continued his fast start to the season by scoring two goals against Lake Michigan after scoring two goals against Muskegon Community College on Saturday. Brendon Mullen scored the other goal for the Lakers, his second of the weekend.

Olivier Fevrier Sildor added a couple of assists while Alexis Serna Moscosa assisted the other goal for Lakeland in the win.

Lakeland had numerous scoring chances in the first half but it was Pesso and Mullen able to cash in to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead in the first half. Lakeland did score an own goal before halftime to allow Lake Michigan to get within 2-1 at the break.

Pesso was able to give the Lakers a little breathing room in the second half with a goal for a 3-1 lead. The third goal proved to be vital as Lake Michigan scored a goal in the second half to get within 3-2 but that would the final time Lake Michigan found the net in the Lakers victory.

Lakeland will have its home-opener on Friday, Sept. 1 against Schoolcraft College at 1 p.m.
