KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College men's soccer had the offense going early to roll over Lorain County Community College 9-0 to open the 45th annual soccer tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers improved to 3-2-0 with the win and bounce back after a tough loss to Schoolcraft College earlier in the week.
Carlos Pesso and Brendon Mullen each had a hat trick while Pesso added two assists for a very productive game. Olivier Fevrier Sildor scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others. Liz Serago added a goal and an assist in the win. Aaron Hafer picked up the win as the keeper and only had to make three saves on the day.
The scoring started fast for the Lakers as Mullen received a pass from Pesso and buried the first goal into the net in the fifth minute. Seven minutes later Pesso picked up a goal after an assist from Sildor for a 2-0 lead.
Mullen added his second goal in the 21st minute after receiving a pass from Serago for a 3-0 lead. Pesso secured a hat trick in the first half with a goal in the 38th minute assisted by Ivan Miljak and in the 43rd minute with an assist from Sildor for the sixth goal. Serago added a goal between the goals from Pesso to give the Lakers a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime.
Lakeland looked to maintain possession in the beginning stages of the second half and did just that but then added a trio of goals in the final 10 minutes. Sildor caught fire in the final 10 minutes with back-to-back goals in the 81st and 82nd minutes. Jake Alicea assisted on the first goal and Uri-Malcolm Young assisted the other.
Mullen earned his hat trick in the final four minutes, putting in a goal after an assist from Pesso to cap the 9-0 victory.
Lakeland will conclude the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 10 against Mercyhurst North East at 1 p.m.
