KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College men's soccer was one minute away from losing at home but a goal by Kyle Brooks in the 89th minute helped the Lakers earn a 3-3 tie against Lake Michigan College Sunday afternoon.
The tie for the Lakers moves their record to 5-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Region XII play.
The goal by Brooks in the 89th minute was his second as he scored the first goal in the second half to give Lakeland a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. Franklin Durugbor assisted on the game-tying goal.
Brendon Mullen scored the opening goal for the Lakers after a free kick was tapped by Ivan Miljak over at the foot of Mullen for a goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 42nd minute. Lake Michigan struck first with a goal in the 17th minute as the game was tied 1-1 at the half.
The game went back and for in the second half as Brooks gave Lakeland the lead in the 57th minute after being the first to a loose ball that bounced out of the Lake Michigan keeper's hands. Lake Michigan was able to score two straight goals on a penalty kick and a free kick to take a 3-2 lead.
The Lakers left everything to the last minute but Durugbor was able to find Brooks for a goal in the 89th to tie the game.
Both teams had chances to score in the two overtime periods but both Lakeland and Lake Michigan came up empty and had to settle for a tie.
Lakeland will hit the road on Wednesday, Sept. 20 against Lorain County Community College for a match at 4 p.m.
