Lakers wake up offensively in final eight minutes to beat Lorain, 6-3

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College men's soccer woke up offensively in the final eight minutes to turn a 3-3 tie into a 6-3 victory over Lorain County Community College Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Brooks, Carlos Pesso and Olivier Fevrier Sildor all scored in the final eight minutes to salvage a victory and help the Lakers improve to 10-3-1 overall. Lakeland remains at 5-3-1 in Region XII play.

Pesso was a force offensively at times and earned a hat trick with three goals and added two assists. Sildor scored twice and also earned an assist. Brendon Mullen had two assists against Lorain while Ivan Miljak also had an assist.

Lakeland was caught on its heels in the eighth minute as Lorain jumped out to a 1-0 lead but it would only last for 11 minutes. Pesso tied the game up in the 19th minute after receiving a pass from Mullen. Pesso gave the Lakers the lead in the 29th minute after Miljak forced a pass ahead and Pesso buried the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead that would hold up until halftime.

Lorain came out firing in the second half and tied the game up at 2-2 in the 46th minute. Sildor would give the Lakers the lead again in the 68th minute after taking a pass from Pesso and dribbling past a couple Lorain defenders for a goal and a 3-2 lead. That lead wouldn't hold as Lorain again knotted the game up in the 76th minute to make the score 3-3.

In the 82nd minute, Lakeland flipped a switch and found its rhythm offensively. Brooke got it started in the 82nd minute after taking a headed pass from Mullen and heading in a goal for a 4-3 lead. Pesso decided to pile on a goal in the 86th minute after receiving a pass from Sildor for a 5-3 lead.

Sildor put on the finishing touches to the game in the 87th minute with a goal after a pass from Pesso to give the Lakers a 6-3 lead that would hold up until the final whistle.

Lakeland will next play its final non-conference game at home on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. against Cincinnati State Technical & Community College.
