Tyson Mayer enters his second season at the helm of the Lakeland men’s soccer team in 2023.

In his first season, Mayer helped the Lakers advance to the NJCAA regional semifinals where the team fell to the eventual regional champion, Schoolcraft College, in double overtime. The Lakers finished with a 5-5 overall record, marking the fourth consecutive season at .500 or better.

Mayer has over 20 years of additional experience in the high school and club settings. For two seasons, Mayer served as the boys soccer assistant coach at Chagrin Falls High School where he helped pilot the team to the regional finals. In his two seasons with the Tigers, Mayer helped foster four All-Ohio athletes. He was also an assistant coach for Eastlake North High School, as well as serving as head coach for East Lee County High School in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Additionally, Mayer has ran his own club team and taken the program to top youth tournaments in the country.

Collegiately, Mayer was a former standout on the Lakeland men’s soccer team, being named an All-Region and All-OCCAC honoree. In high school, Mayer was a three-sport athlete, competing in soccer, basketball and baseball, earning all-conference honors in each of the sports.

Mayer is a graduate of Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics.
