Lakers split with Walsh (JV)

The Lady Lakers (4-1) traveled to North Canton, Ohio, on Wednesday to battle Walsh University (JV).Taking advantage of any nice weather, the Lakers were excited to jump into some softball action. In the match-up, the Lakers split with the Cavaliers.

In the first game, Lakeland fell short and lost to Walsh 8-6. The first inning proved to be the difference maker in this game as the Cavaliers 6 of their 8 runs in that frame. Solid defense from the Lakers allowed them to inch their way back in throughout the game. The fifth inning was huge for the Lakers with singles by Abbe Mower, Shar Miller, and Jamie Matso putting the Lakers within 2. One more score in the seventh inning brought the game that much closer; however, Walsh walked away with the first game.

Later that day, the Lakers came back swinging. The game started with a back and forth affair until a RBI from Danae Scoville drove in a run and the Lakers went up 1-0. The Cavaliers fought back in the fifth and took a 2-1 lead before the Lakers put the game away by scoring 4 runs in the 6thinning. Emily Woods and Laura Matso started the inning with consecutive singles. Later in the inning, Jamie Matso hit an RBI double which was followed by an RBI single from both Scoville and Justine Barnes. McKailyn Woodward pitched a complete game striking out 4 and walking none while allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. In the 11 hit attack, Justine Barnes had 3 while Laura Matso, Emily Woods, Jamie Matso each had two. Barnes and Scoville each contributed two stolen bases.

The Lady Lakers next game is scheduled for Sunday, March 26, at Ohio University Lancaster (Lancaster, Ohio).
