Lakers swept by Cuyahoga

The Lady Lakers (8-4) played host and dropped a pair of games to the Cuyahoga Community College Challengers yesterday. In game one, McKailyn Woodward gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits in seven innings as the Lakers lost 4-1. Two of the Challengers runs came via passed ball/wild pitch. Abbe Mowrer led the way for the Lakers as she collected two of their four hits. The Lakers scored their lone run when Taylor Rowe led off the bottom of the third inning with a challenging fly ball to left. The ball was misplayed and she was able to advance to second base. Rowe then advanced to third base on a ground out by Danae Scoville. Rowe then scored on a sac fly to right field by Justine Barnes.

In the nightcap, Sydney Aey started and took the 9-1 loss. Aey threw threw four-plus innings and allowed nine runs on four hits. Unfortunately, defensive miscues were key as the Lakers committed three errors in the game. The Lakers started the game on fire as Tayler Rowe and Jamie Matso led off with consecutive singles. A single by Abbe Mowrer would later load the bases before a bunt single by Emily Woods gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. From there, the Lakers bats went cold as they managed just two more hits the rest of the day. Taylor Rowe and Jamie Matso led the way offensively with two hits each. Rowe again scored the lone run for the Lakers.

There has been a change to the schedule for this weekend as the Lakers will now travel to Sinclair Community College Sunday to make up a postponed league doubleheader. The nonleague games against Niagara county Community College will be rescheduled for May 6.
