Lakers sweep Kent State – Tuscarawas

This past Friday, The Lady Lakers (12-8) played host to Kent State – Tuscarawas and came away with two wins. Shardonay Miller went 4-4, scored a run, and drove in three as she helped pace the Lakers to an 8-1 victory. Miller had RBI singles in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Amber Liederbach also contributed with two doubles; one knocking in a run and the other setting up a score. Emily Woods added a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to help put the game away. McKailyn Woodward picked up the win hurling seven innings allowing seven hits and one run while striking out nine batters.

In the second game, the Lakers used a six run second inning to put KSW away and then rolled to the fifth inning 10-1 win. Sydney Aey pitched the complete game for Lakeland allowing four hits and striking out three. Aey picked up her third consecutive victory with the win. The Lakers big second inning started with a quick two outs. Danae Scoville then singled and stole second before coming home on a Justine Barnes double. Jamie Matso then singled. Emily Woods stepped up and hit a tough ball to the left fielder that wound up dropping in for a two run error. Abbe Mowrer then doubled to left knocking in Woods. Shardonay Miller then hit a RBI single which was followed by an Amber Liederbach run scoring single. In the fifth inning, Barnes tripled and later scored on a two run shot from Woods.

Lakeland will travel to Grand Rapids Community College for a non-league doubleheader Saturday. The Lakers will then host Mercyhurst NE Monday and Walsh University JV Wednesday. Game times are at 3:30 p.m.
