Lakers softball splits with University of Northwestern Ohio (JV)

Tuesday, the Lady Lakers played host to the University of Northwestern Ohio (JV). The Lakers lost the first game 1-0. UNOH had five hits and the Lakers managed four in the opener. The one hit was the difference. After battling to a 0-0 tie after five innings, UNOH's number nine hitter, Brenda Feasby, homered to lead off the top of the sixth inning. That was all they needed as the Lakers bats could not get going during the first game. McKailyn Woodward took the loss in the complete game performance allowing five hits while striking out 11 batters.

The Lakers rebounded in game two by collecting eight hits from seven different batters in the 4-1 victory. Amber Leiderbach collected two hits in leading the Lakers offensively. The first three runs scored by the Lakers were aided by walks and defensive miscues; however, the final run was produced on a Justine Barnes double following a Leiderbach double. Sydney Aey pitched the complete game and picked up the victory for the Lakers allowing three hits and striking out seven batters.

Lakeland will travel to Parma today to take on the Challengers from Cuyahoga Community College in a 3:30 double header. Friday (4/28), the Lakers are scheduled to travel to Notre Dame College (JV) for a 3:30 tilt. Saturday, the Lakers will travel to Genesee for a 2 p.m. twin bill. Sunday's games at Erie CC have been cancelled.
