Lakeland softball adds pitching and an infielder for 2019 team

Lakeland Community College softball added an infielder and a pitcher to bolster the 2019 team. Infielder Gabriele Monastero (Mayfield) and pitcher Glendy Bergdorf (Akron) recently signed with the Lakers.

Bergdorf, a pitcher from Coventry High School in Akron, had a 6-1 record with three saves while striking out 33 last season at Coventry. Bergdorf was also effective at the plate with 15 at bats and belting six singles and knocking in three runs.

"Glendy will give us depth in the circle," said Jeff Morganti, Lakeland softball head coach. "She is a very good student and we are looking forward to her becoming a Laker."

As a shortstop out of Mayfield High School, Monastero played in 21 games and hit .383 with 19 singles and 18 runs.

"Gabi is an athletic middle infielder with a power bat who we expect to come in and make an immediate impact to our program," Morganti said.

Both players will be on the 2019 Lakers but this season, Lakeland will begin play on March 2 with a road game at Ohio University – Chillicothe. The Lakers will first play a home game on Wednesday, March 28 against Mercyhurst North East for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
