Sydney Aey named OCCAC softball pitcher of the week for Lakeland

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Four different Ohio Community College Aathletic Conference (OCCAC) institutions are represented in this week's Spring Sport Athlete of the Week (March 19-26) recognitions. Alex Jacobs (Sinclair) and Kaila Sense (Cuyahoga) are the Position Player of the Week honorees while Marcus Johnson (Edison State) and Sydney Aey (Lakeland) received Pitcher of the Week laurels.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Aey tossed a complete game at Marietta College, fanning 11 batters in the process. She carried the Lakers to a 6-2 victory with a pair of unearned runs by scattering three hits and three walks to minimize the damage of a few defensive fielding gaffes. 

Aey improved her pitching record to 2-3 with the victory over Marietta and has struck out 26 batters in 20 innings.

Lakeland recently improve to 5-5 with a doubleheader sweep of Marietta. The Lakers will host their first home games of the regular season on Wednesday, March 28 with a doubleheader against Mercyhurst North East beginning at 3:30 p.m.
