Lakers get roughed up at Sinclair to open up conference play, 8-0 and 9-1

XENIA, Ohio – Lakeland softball had a rough start to conference play as Sinclair Community College swept the Lakers by the scores of 8-0 and 9-1 Friday afternoon.

With the losses, Lakeland falls to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Sinclair 8 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland was held hitless in the opening game and Sinclair took advantage in an 8-0 victory in five innings to open the doubleheader.

Sinclair 9 – Lakeland 1

Lakeland did better on offense in the second game but it didn't change its luck as Sinclair completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory in five innings.

Cassidy Yarnell hit a double and scored the lone run for the Lakers. Sam Szoradi had an RBI single in the loss.

Sinclair did jump out to an 8-0 lead after four innings but Lakeland did get on the board in the fifth. Yarnell started off the inning with a double and was brought in by an RBI single by Szoradi in the infield to get within 9-1. Sinclair was able to get out of the inning without further damage to hold on for the win.

Lakeland will continue its conference road trip with a doubleheader at Edison State Community College on Saturday, April 7 beginning at 1 p.m.
