NORTH EAST, Pa. – Lakeland softball had a hard time keeping Mercyhurst North East off the scoreboard and lost a pair of games by the score of 8-0 and 12-4 Tuesday afternoon.

With the pair of losses, Lakeland's overall record falls to 6-5.

Mercyhurst North East 8 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland could not get any offense going in the first game and only managed three hits in an 8-0 loss to open the doubleheader.

Elizabeth Montgomery, Nicole Ulogar and Teyah Sautter each hit a single in the loss.

Merychurst North East scored three in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth. Mercyhurst North East finished off the game early with two more runs in the fifth.

Mercyhurst North East 12 – Lakeland 4

Lakeland did a better job offensively in the second game but was unable to slow down Mercyhurst North East in a 12-4 loss.

Asianna Settles hit a double and a home run and added an RBI in the loss. Gabriella Monastero and Sautter each had an RBI in the loss while Abbie Tuttle knocked a double and scored a run.

Merychurst North East jumped out with five runs in the opening inning but Lakeland showed some fight in the second inning. Tuttle started the inning with a double and then scored on an RBI single by Monastero to get within 5-1.

Sautter brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to right for the second run and then Settles scored on an error to get the Lakers within 5-3. Mercyhurst added a pair of runs in the third to take a 7-3 lead.

Settles countered with a solo home run in the fourth inning to get within 7-4 but that would be the final run scored by Lakeland as Mercyhurst added five more runs to end the game in five innings.

Lakeland will next take a trip to face CCBC Catonsville on Friday, March 29 for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
