CATONSVILLE, Md. – Lakeland softball ran into the hot bats of CCBC Catonsville and was swept in a doubleheader by the scores of 8-0 and 13-6 Friday afternoon.
With the losses, Lakeland's overall record falls to 6-7.
Catonsville 8 – Lakeland 0
Lakeland could only muster two hits in the opening game as Catonsville ended the game early with an 8-0 victory in five.
Asianna Settles and Elena Logan each had a single in the loss for Lakeland.
Catonsville scored six in the opening inning and then added single runs in the second and third to close out the 8-0 victory.
Catonsville 13 – Lakeland 6
Lakeland hit the ball much better as the game went the scheduled seven innings but Catonsville still came out with a 13-6 victory.
Logan delivered a big blow with a three-run home run to supply half of the Lakeland runs. Settles and Abbie Tuttle each had an RBI in the loss.
Lakeland did get on the scoreboard first as Elizabeth Montgomery singled to get on and then scored on an RBI single by Settles for a 1-0 lead. The lead did not last long as Catonsville scored eight runs in the bottom of the first for an 8-1 lead.
The Lakers put together another scoring opportunity in the second as Ely Miller reached base after getting hit by a pitch and then later scored on a passed ball to get within 8-2. Catonsville added on four more runs in the bottom of the second for a 12-2 lead.
Lakeland put together its best inning of the doubleheader as Settles started it off with a one out walk and then scored on an RBI ground out by Tuttle to get within 12-3. Logan provided a three-run home run to get within 12-6. That would be the final run scored as Catonsville added one more in the sixth to make the final score 13-6.
Lakeland will next travel to face Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, March 30 for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
