Lakers play better but still lose to Hagerstown, 6-3 and 9-3

HAGERSTOWN, Pa. – Lakeland softball played much better than the day before but wasn't able to get a game in a doubleheader loss to Hagerstown Community College by the scores of 6-3 and 9-3 Saturday afternoon.

With the losses, Lakeland's overall record falls to 6-9.

Hagerstown 6 – Lakeland 3

Lakeland got some offense going late but it wasn't enough as Hagerstown won the opening game 6-3.

Abbie Tuttle crushed a home run and brought in two runs while Elena Logan hit her second home run of the season. Asianna Settles hit a double and two singles while Gabriella Monastero hit a double in the loss.

Hagerstown did jump out to a 5-0 lead after five innings with two in the second and three in the fifth. Lakeland did get some offense going in the sixth when Settles doubled with one out and Tuttle followed with a two-run home run to get within 5-2. Hagerstown added a single run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2.

Logan did nail a solo home run in the seventh to get within 6-3 but that would be the final run scored as Hagerstown held on for the win.

Hagerstown 9 – Lakeland 3

Lakeland played well except for one bad inning in which Hagerstown scored six runs on its way to a 9-3 victory to secure the sweep.

Tuttle hit another home run in the second game, a solo shot and added a single. Cameron Malkamaki and Nicole Watts each had an RBI while Nicole Ulogar added a double in the loss.

Hagerstown scored one run in the bottom of the first but Lakeland came right back in the next inning. Tuttle started the second with a single and then scored on an RBI ground out to tie the game at 1-1.

Tuttle game Lakeland the lead in the fourth with a solo home run to left for a 2-1 lead. The following inning was a tough one for the Lakers as mistakes caused Hagerstown to score six runs in the fifth and add two more in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead.

Lakeland did not go down without a fight as Ulogar doubled and then was brought in by an RBI single by Watts to get within 9-3. That would be the final run scored as Hagerstown held on for the sweep.

Lakeland will play its first doubleheader at home on Monday, April 1 against Lake Erie College JV beginning at 3:30 p.m.
