Lakers suffer sweep at Cuyahoga, 5-1 and 14-0

PARMA, Ohio – Lakeland softball only scored one run in two games in a sweep for Cuyahoga Community College by the scores of 5-1 and 14-0 Tuesday afternoon.

With the losses, Lakeland falls to 7-14 overall and 1-5 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Cuyahoga improved to 5-1 in OCCAC play.

Cuyahoga 5 – Lakeland 1

Lakeland was able to earn nine hits in the opening game but could only get one run across in a 5-1 loss to open the doubleheader.

Gabriella Monastero had the lone RBI for Lakeland with a single. Nicole Ulogar, Cameron Malkamaki and Ely Miller each had two hits in the loss.

Cuyahoga jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings but Lakeland got on the board in the fourth. Malkamaki led the inning off with a triple and then Monastero followed with an RBI single to left to get within 5-1. That would be the final run scored by both teams in the Lakeland loss.

Cuyahoga 14 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland wasn't able to get as many hits in the second game as Cuyahoga took control early and went to on to win 14-0 in five innings.

Monastero hit a double and Asianna Settles hit a single and that was the only hits in the game for the Lakers.

Lakeland will next travel to face Owens Community College on Saturday, April 13 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
