Lakers softball splits with Triceratops

The Lakeland softball team ttraveled to Cuyahoga today and had two wild games as the came away with a split. The games were moved up due to the impending weather and Lakeland brought the lumber in both games as they lost game one 23-15 before taking game two by a score of 17-5. The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Carmen Alvarez led off with a double and then stole third base. C. Alvarez would later score on a fielder's choice from Astianna Coppes. Midaliz Alvarez later singled and advanced on a single from Lillyan Agostine before scoring on a RBI-single from Abby Haydu. Cuyahoga would explode in the home half scoring 10 runs. Lakeland would cut into the lead in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2 more runs. The runs scored when Peyton Trick singled before an Astianna Coppes home run. Cuyahoga would answer by scoring 6 more runs for a 16-4 lead after 2 innings. Lakeland would make it 16-5 in top of the 4th inning when Coppes would double and then score on a double from Abby Haydu. Lakeland would then explode for 9 runs in the top of the 5th inning to cut the deficit to 2 at 16-14. Lily Seay and Kennedy Danna singled to start the inning before Seay was cut down on a fielders choice from C. Alvarez. Both runners would advance on a passed ball and then score on a single from Peyton Trick. Coppes would follow with a double before Midaliz Alvarez crushed a 3-run home run. Agostine would then get hit by a pitch and advance on a Haydu single. Reagan Hayes followed with an RBI-single. Haydu would then score on a RBI-single from Lily Seay. Seay would then advance on catchers indifference before Kennedy Danna hit an RBI-single. Carmen Alvarez plated the final run of the inning on another RBI-single. Cuyahoga would score a run in the home half to make the score 17-14 after 5 innings. Lakeland would get a little closer in the top of the 6th inniong as they pushed across another run. The run scored when Lillyan Agostine singled and advanced on a fielder's choice from Haydu. Agostine would eventually score on a ball hit from Reagan Hayes that the Cuyahoga defense could not handle. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that's as close as they would get as Tri-C took advantage of a couple of walks and an error to close out the game.

Peyton Trick started and took the loss on the mound. Lily Seay pitched well in relief. Offensively, the Lakers pounded out 22 hits as aevery hitter recorded agt least 2 hits. Astianna Coppes (2-2B) and Midaliz Alvarez (HR) each collected 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Abby Haydu (2B and 2 RBI's) and Lillyan Agostine each collected 3 hits in game 1. Peyton Trick had 2 hits and 2 RBI's while Kennedy Danna, Lily Seay, and Reagan Hayes each added 2 hits and an RBI. Carmen Alvarez also chipped in 2 hits (2B) for the Lakers.

Game 2 had a different feel as Lakeland jumped out to the early lead while Cuyahoga chipped away to make a game of it before the Lakers exploded to close it out. The Lakers again jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Carmen Alvarez reached on an error before Peyton Trick singled. Both runners advanced on a fielder's choice from Astianna Coppes before both scored on a single from Midaliz Alvarez. The Lakers would take a 6-0 lead by plating 4 more runs in the top of the second inning. C. Alvarez got it started with a single before Trick reached on an error. Both runners would score on a double from Astianna Coppes. Midaliz Alvarez then followed with a 2-run home run. Cuyahoga would score a run in the home half before the Lakers answered with another run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run from Carmen Alvarez. Tri-C would score another run in the bottom of the 5th inning and the score would remain 7-3 until the top of the 7th inning. Lakeland would then blow the game open scoring 10 more runs. Abby Haydu and Reagan Hayes would start the inning wigh consecutive singles. Agostine would then hit a ball that Tri-C misplayed allowing Haydu to score. Hayes would then score on a RBI-single from Carmen Alvarez. Trick would then hit a fielder's choice with C. Alvarez getting cut down at second. Coppes would then walk before Peyton Trick scored on a double from M. Alvarez. Coppes and M. Alvarez would later score on a single from Lillyan Agostine. Abby Haydu then tripled to score Agostine. Reagan Hayes followed with an RBI-single. Lily Seay would follow with a single before both runners sxcored on a single and error on a hit from Megan Szczecinski. From there, the Lakers cruised to the victory.

In game 2, every Laker again got a hit as they pounded out 20 hits. Midaliz Alvarez led the way with 3 hits (2B, HR) and 6 RBI's. Carmen Alvarez finished with 3 hits (HR) and 2 RBI's while Reagan Hayes added 3 hits and an RBI. Lillyan Agostine added 2 hits and 2 RBI's while Abby Haydu (3B), Lily Seay, and Astianna Coppes (2B) each added 2 hits and an RBI. Peyton Trick collected 2 hits while Megan Szczecinski added a hit in the Laker win. Leah Richter went the distance on the mound picking up the win as she allowed 5 runs while scattering 11 hits.

Next Up: The Lakers hit the road again on Friday (4/27) as they travel to Hocking College to face the Hawks, First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
