Lakeland’s Armani Jackson named OCCAC Division II women’s basketball player of the week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) selected its first edition of Basketball Player of Week recipients for the 2017-18 season and three different schools were represented. Armani Jackson (Copley) of Lakeland Community College and Cuyahoga's Devon Robinson were the D-II winners while the Lorain County pair of Hannah Oehlstrom and Daniel Lott swept the D-III accolades.

Jackson lifted the Lakers to wins over Niagara County and Erie in the season's opening week. She averaged 18.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game (7.0/G on the offensive glass), coming up one rebound shy of back-to-back double-doubles. Jackson dropped in 17 points to go along with 16 boards on the road at Niagara County before an encore two days later vs. Erie which included 19 points and nine boards. For the week, Jackson converted on 13 of 30 field goal attempts (43.4%) and added in three blocks, two steals and two assists.

The Lakers started the season 2-0 with both a win on the road at Niagara County Community College and at home against Erie Community College. Lakeland will play in the TJ Memorial Tournament this weekend, starting with a game against Pitt-Titusville on Friday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
