Lakers blow past Pitt-Titusville to open TJ Memorial Tournament, 114-47

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College women's basketball wasted little time racing out to a fast start and used that to cruise to a 114-47 victory over Pitt-Titusville to open the TJ Memorial Tournament Friday evening.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 3-0 behind 23 points and 11 rebounds from Ziona Williams. Lakeland will next face Macomb Community College on Saturday, Nov. 11 in the tournament championship at 2 p.m.

A total of six Lakeland players scored in double figures as Brianna Williams was second leading scorer with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Armani Jackson and Aryana Jackson each scored 16 points. Angel Cannon turned in a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds while Jayla Sanford chipped in 10 points in the win.

Lakeland showed its dominance early on by only allowing Titusville to score four points in the first quarter. Aryana Jackson scored eight points in the opening quarter as the Lakers jumped out to a 26-4 lead after one.

Ziona Williams scored 11 of her team-high 23 points in the second quarter as Lakeland outscored Titusville 28-15 to take a 54-19 lead at halftime.

Sanford found the hot hand in the third quarter as she scored all of two of her 10 points in the third as Lakeland kept rolling to an 87-30 lead heading into the final quarter. The Lakers worked the ball around more in the fourth but still outscored Titusville 27-17 to roll to the 67-point victory.
