KIRTLAND, Ohio – A huge third quarter where Lakeland Community College outscored Lorain County Community College women's basketball 35-6 was enough to give the Lakers a 100-54 victory Wednesday night.
With the win, Lakeland improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
Aryana Jackson didn't get the start but came off the bench to lead all scorers with 23 points and added four rebounds. Delesha Jackson followed with 18 points and picked up 10 steals for an unorthodox double-double. The 10 steals from Delesha Jackson was just three steals shy of the Lakeland record of 13.
Ziona Williams scored 17 for the Lakers while Armani Jackson, Brianna Williams and Lauryn Mitchell each scored 10 points.
Lakeland started fast in the opening quarter as Delesha Jackson drove to the basket for an early 10-3 lead with 7:04 left. Aryana Jackson came off the bench to score 10 in the first and the Lakers held a 28-17 lead after one.
Lakeland struggled offensively in the second quarter and only outscored Lorain 14-12. Mitchell provided six points in the second as the Lakers limped into the half with a 42-29 lead.
A more energetic Lakeland team came out in the third quarter as the Lakers outscored Lorain 35-6 in the third. Ziona Williams made 6-of-7 shots, including a 3-pointer, to score 13 points to help give Lakeland a 77-35 lead after the third.
With a large lead, Lakeland was able to coast to victory in the fourth quarter. Aryana Jackson scored eight points in the fourth as the Lakers outscored Lorain 23-19 to claim the 46-point victory.
Lakeland will next hit the road for a rematch with Erie Community College on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. The Lakers beat Erie 82-74 in the second game of the season on Nov. 3.
