Lakeland uses fast start to drop Erie, 81-57

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Lakeland Community College women's basketball used a fast start and was able to overcome a sluggish second quarter to beat Erie Community College 81-57 Saturday afternoon to earn its eighth consecutive victory. 

With the non-conference victory, the Lakers improve to 8-0 overall and maintain a 2-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. 

Aryana Jackson came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers to lead the Lakers with 22 points and five rebounds. Armani Jackson scored 17 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. 

Delesha Jackson and Brianna Williams each scored 12 points while Angel Cannon came off the bench to score 10 points on her birthday. 

Lakeland got off to a fast start in the opening quarter as Brianna Williams score nine points in the opening 10 minutes and the Lakers led 27-7 after one. The second quarter was almost the opposite as Erie came out strong and outscored Lakeland 25-17.

Even with the rough second quarter, the Lakers still held a 44-32 lead at the break as Armani Jackson and Aryana Jackson each scored five points in the quarter. 

The third quarter was pretty equal for both teams as Lakeland narrowly outscored Erie 15-13 behind eight points from Armani Jackson. The Lakers held a 59-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

Aryana Jackson and Cannon each scored eight points in the final quarter to help the Lakers outscore Erie 22-12 to cruise to the 24-point victory. 

Lakeland will next travel to face Jamestown Community College on Saturday, Dec. 16 for a game at 1 p.m.
