Lakeland halts losing streak by blowing by Lorain County, 118-60

ELYRIA, Ohio - Looking to stop a losing streak, Lakeland Community College women's basketball blew out Lorain County Community College 118-60 Wednesday night. 

With the win, the Lakers improved to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. 

Ziona Williams had a great night shooting, going 11-of-16 from the floor and finishing with a game-high 27 points. Brianna Williams finished with 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting while Armani Jackson finished with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. 

Jayla Sanford also reached double figures with 17 points while Angel Cannon added 13 points.

Lakeland got off to a decent start and led 28-21 after one quarter but the second quarter is where the Lakers pulled away with a 31-10 second quarter to take a 59-31 lead at the half. From there, the Lakers cruised to the 58-point victory.

"Our defense in the second quarter is what helped us pull away," said Ornette Gardenhire, Lakeland head coach. 

Lakeland will be back home on Saturday, Feb. 3 with a home game against Hocking College at 1 p.m.
