Lakeland’s Brianna Williams named OCCAC Division II women’s basketball player of the week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Brianna Williams (Lakeland) and Gabe Simpson (Owens) have earned OCCAC D-II Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4 while Columbus State's Antishay Rahim and Mario Young picked up the D-III accolades.

Williams tallied per game averages of 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.5 assists in a pair of blow-out wins for the Lakers. She shot 63% (26-41) from the floor in scoring 55 total points, dropping in 25 at Lorain County and 30 more points at home versus Hocking College. Williams did much more than score, however, also registered 18 rebounds, eight steals, seven rebounds and two blocks while committing just three turnovers in 64 minutes of action.

When Williams scored 25 points against Lorain County that was her season-high in points and then beat topped that three days later with 30 points against Hocking.

Lakeland has won two consecutive games and now have a 13-5 record overall and 5-3 in OCCAC play. The Lakers will face Columbus State Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
