Lakers overwhelmed by Owens in District I Semifinals, 84-59

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball had a tough task ahead with a NJCAA Region XII District I semifinal against top-ranked Owens Community College and the Lakers fell behind early and lost 85-59 at Ohio Christian University Friday afternoon.

The loss ends the season for Lakeland as the Lakers finish with a 16-10 overall record, which included a 7-7 finish in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Armani Jackson put together a solid game with 19 points and nine rebounds while Delesha Jackson scored 13 and Angel Cannon dropped 13 points off the bench for the Lakers.

Armani Jackson scored six points in the opening quarter but Lakeland was only able to score nine in the quarter. Owens jumped out to a 10-3 lead and cruised to an 18-9 lead after one.

Cannon came off the bench in the second quarter and hit a rare shot behind the arc and scored eight points to give the Lakers a little life in the first half. Lakeland got within 23-14 after a layup by Armani Jackson with 5:21 left but Owens held on for a 34-23 lead at halftime.

Owens came out in the third quarter and stepped on the gas with 29 points in the quarter. Armani Jackson scored seven in the third but Lakeland was outscored 29-18 as Owens took a 63-41 lead into the final quarter.

Delesha Jackson showed no quit in the fourth quarter with seven points but the Lakers were unable to cut into the Owens lead as the Lakers lost by 25 to end the season
