KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball only led by two heading into the decisive fourth quarter but the Lakers were able to blow the game open in the final quarter to earn a 72-57 victory over Oakland Community College Saturday morning.

With the win, Lakeland improves to 3-0 and completes a 2-0 record in the TJ Memorial Tournament.

Lakeland had a balanced effort on the scoreboard as Calasia Cunningham led the Lakers with 13 points and added seven rebounds. Delesha Jackson and Selah Richardson each scored 11 points while Destiny Khay chipped in 10 points.

Lakeland did not get off to a good start as Oakland built a 20-10 lead after a quarter even after Jackson scored five of the 10 total points.

The second quarter was much better for the Lakers as they outscored Oakland 15-6 thanks to five points from Ziona Williams and Julie Hajdu. After the second quarter, Lakeland only trailed 26-25 at halftime. 

Momentum continued for Lakeland in the third but Oakland hung close as the Lakers narrowly outscored Oakland 21-18 in the third. Cunningham scored seven in the quarter.

Richardson came up big in the fourth for Lakeland with 10 points as the Lakers grabbed control of the game with a 26-13 quarter to come away with the win.

Lakeland will be at home again on Wednesday, Jan. 14 against Jamestown Community College at 5:30 p.m.
