KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball opened conference play with a convincing 89-53 trouncing of Hocking College Saturday afternoon.
Calasia Cunningham scored 20 points for Lakeland as the Lakers improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.
Destiny Khay came off the bench to score 18 points while Ziona Williams had a double-double at halftime and didn't play much in the second half. Williams finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Delesha Jackson finished with 14 points in the win.
Lakeland came out strong in the opening quarter as Jackson scored eight of her 14 points in the first. The Lakers grabbed a 21-11 lead after one.
The second quarter was even better as Lakeland trounced Hocking 34-6 to own a 55-17 lead at the break. Williams scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds in the second quarter alone while contributing five assists in the lopsided quarter.
The second half was more even but Lakeland cruised to the 36-point victory to open conference play.
Lakeland will next travel to face Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Lakeland and Mercyhurst North east played on Nov. 6 with Lakeland escaping with a 72-69 overtime victory.
